We integrate scientific* tools and knowledge with education and partnerships to enhance climate resilience in rural and Indigenous communities across the Southwest.
*”Scientific” is inclusive of respectful and reciprocal space for Indigenous Knowledge The Southwestern Mountain region, known for its vast landscapes and biodiversity, is experiencing significant climate shifts that impact both ecosystems and the communities residing here. Among these are some of the highest densities of Indigenous populations in the U.S., along with rural and minority communities, as well as Tribal, federal, and state land managers, educators, and policymakers.
As our climate continues to change, these communities face complex and urgent challenges, from altered water availability to more frequent and severe wildfires. Recognizing the importance of addressing these challenges, the Southwestern Mountains Climate Resilience Center (SMCRC) was established with a vision to bridge the gap between innovative scientific research and community resilience. |
